FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Media Advisory
What: Coping with Breast Cancer with Yoga & Meditation
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United
Sates, Bridge to Learning Family Yoga is hosting a FREE Yoga for Breast
Cancer workshop on Saturday, October 18th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM to support
& empower families affected by breast cancer. Breast Cancer has become
the second leading cause of cancer death in women. 2.5 million women in
the United Sates have been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer.
Many patients are looking to mind-body exercises such as yoga to cope
with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
Recent studies conducted by
Dr. Laura Porter of Duke University showed how yoga can improve hot flashes
and menopausal symptoms in women with breast cancer. Yoga classes specifically
designed for patients with breast cancer can improve stress levels and
empower women with health and well-being. Yoga empowers women with the
tools and techniques to develop self-awareness. Yoga can help reduce stress,
raise your energy level and boost the immune system. Studies show that
specific yoga poses can safely stretch muscles that help stimulate the
lymph system. Restorative poses and gentle stretches supported by blankets
improve circulation, range of motion and help reduce discomfort from scar
tissue and helps open the chest and upper body.
Meditation techniques & breathing exercises can help patients through
radiation and chemotherapy. Yoga offers patients with breast cancer the
opportunity to be involved in their healing by bringing balance to the
mind, body and spirit.
If you are one of the many who have been touched
by breast cancer, join Kelly Cleveland, a breast cancer survivor and certified
yoga teacher as she presents a two hour Yoga for Breast Cancer to explore
yoga for recovery. Participants will learn breathing techniques to assist
in healing the body and mind as well as gentle to moderate stretches of
the muscles affected by surgery. Learn how to continue to stretch at home
and resources on healthcare professionals to aid in your recovery. For
