Kundalini Yoga was designed for people who want to relax, energize, and uplift themselves in a way that fits the busy lives most of us lead. Kundalini yoga, which includes many of the same postures found in Hatha yoga, gives a good challenge, yet is very doable for the average person. The positive effects of Kundalini yoga can be experienced in a matter of minutes. It consists of both held and moving postures coordinated with strong breathing patterns.
A typical Kundalini Yoga class will follow a pattern of first centering with breath and sound, then warming the body with active stretches. Then the class will focus on a particular set of postures or exercises that have a particular theme (balancing the head and heart, for example), concluding with a deep relaxation in which the students relax lying down. Often this relaxation is accompanied by soothing and uplifting music or the powerfully transforming sound of the gong. A typical class is one hour and a half.
